As part of a design intensive at QUT (Queensland University of Technology), I had the privilege of working with a talented, multidisciplinary team to develop innovative and meaningful solutions for Orange Sky Australia, an organization that provides free mobile laundry and shower services to people experiencing homelessness. Beyond just clean clothes, their vans create a space for genuine connection, offering a moment of dignity and conversation during the wash cycle.

Our challenge centered around water wastage a pressing issue given the high water usage involved in mobile laundry services. After extensive research and collaboration, our team proposed a sustainable solution: using plant-safe detergents and redirecting the greywater to irrigate nearby community gardens. This approach not only reduces environmental impact but also nourishes local green spaces, creating a circular benefit from a simple act of service.

This experience was both creatively rewarding and socially impactful. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a project that empowers communities, sparks change, and supports those doing it tough.
